Ayurvedic Nisoth / Operculina turpethum is an ornamental and medicinal plant. It is commonly known as Indian Jalap, Trivrit, Turpeth and Nishoth. It has properties, biomedical action and chemical constituent similar to True Jalap which is a cathartic drug.

Trivrit / Turpeth is used in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani system of medicine for therapeutic purpose. The roots are thermogenic, purgative, carminative, anthelmintic, expectorant, antipyretic, hepatic, stimulant and are used in treatment of rheumatic and paralytic affections, myalgia (muscular pain), arthralgia (joint pain), pectoralgia (thorax pain), fevers, oedema, jaundice, hepato-splenomegaly, hepatitis, intoxication, abdominal tumors, ulcers, wounds, worm infestation obesity, pruritus, other skin disorders and constipation.

Mimosa Pudica Lajjalu Lajwanti has been used widely in traditional medicine. Pulped leaves are used in India on glandular swellings and in the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) the entire plant is pulped and rubbed onto people suffering pains in their body sides and kidneys. In Senegal, the leaves are used for lumbago and nephritis. All parts of the plant have been used to combat glandular tumours and uterine cancer. In India leaf-sap is applied for sinus disorders, and rubbed onto sores and piles.

In southeast Asia sensitive plant has been used traditionally to treat sleep disorders, and in Senegal an infusion of the leaves is believed to be calming and sleep-inducing. M. pudica has also been used for treating dysentery, urinary complaints and snake-bites. Root extracts have shown anti-bacterial action, and along with the seeds are purgative and emetic. However, high doses can be toxic. There are reports that the roots can be used as an aphrodisiac. Green parts of the plant are used as an analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-asthmatic, a mild sedative and anti-depressant. Despite its wide use in traditional medicine, M. pudica is not yet used in Western medicine, as pharmaceutical companies are still researching its reported properties and potential uses.

Indigo Leaves Indigofera Tinctoria is a natural dye that is obtained from the plant Indigofera tinctoria. It’s rich, dark blue in color and is mainly used for dyeing clothes, especially denim. In fact, it is known to be one of the oldest dyes to be used for textile dyeing and printing. However, it is now also being used in combination with henna as a natural hair dye. Interestingly, indigo offers some great benefits for your hair when used appropriately.

Active Ingredient: Indicine (5–15 mg/g, dry basis) and the flavonoids, apigenin, kaempferol, luteolin and quercetin.

Uses: Used in hepatitis. Used in enlargement of liver and spleen, skin diseases, leucoderma, burns, ulcers, piles, nervous disorders, epilepsy, asthma, lumbago, gout. Promote growth of hair.

Bamboo Rice Moongil Rice, also known as Mulayari is actually the seed of a dying bamboo shoot that is produced at the end of its life span. According to research, it is an important and major source of income for tribals living in the forests. The reason this rice is commonly not available is that it takes many years for an aged plant to flower from which this short-grain rice is extracted.

Gokhru Tribulus Terrestris is a plant that produces fruit covered with spines. Rumor has it that tribulus is also known as puncture vine because the spines are so sharp they can flatten bicycle tires. People use the fruit, leaf, and root as medicine.

People use tribulus for conditions such as chest pain, eczema, enlarged prostate, sexual disorders, infertility, and many others, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

The use of pterocarpus in the Ayurveda system of traditional medicine is thousands of years old. The aerial seeds are the most commonly used parts of the tree, including the wood, flowers and leaves. Practitioners of the Ayurveda system often use a cup made from the heartwood of pterocarpus. They fill the cup with water and allow it to stand overnight. Volatile oils in the wood leach into the water, turning it blue. This water is then drunk the next day.

The conditions commonly treated by pterocarpus in the Ayurveda system include diabetes, inflammation and bleeding. The bark is also used for bleeding and toothaches. The leaves are often applied externally as a remedy for skin diseases.

• Madras Leaf-Flower is an erect or spreading subshrub, growing to only 50 cm tall, well-branched and hairless.
• Leaves are arranged in 2-ranks - they are inverted lance-shaped or obovate, 1–4 cm long, up to 5 mm wide.

• Male flowers arise 2 or 3 together with 1 female.

Phyllanthus niruri can help relax the ureter after lithotripsy to help stones pass. Lithotripsy is a procedure used to break up stones in the urinary tract. It may also prevent stones from forming in the first place by stopping the crystals that form them from clumping together.
